Most people, certainly most non-jugglers, think about how high the ball goes. Jugglers think about the timing, so they tend to worry about how long the ball is in the air. But this turns out not to be the most useful idea.

The most useful idea is the Cycle Time. For a given throw, this is the time from the throw to the time of the next throw of that ball with either hand. That means it is the time in the air, plus the time in the hand.
