In 1994 he studied in London with fellow Australian Yvonne Minton, thence commenced postgraduate studies at the RNCM in Manchester where he studied with Patrick McGuigan and Neil Howlett. Masterclass participation includes those with Matti Salminen, Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, Graziella Sciutti, Silvana Bazzoni, Phillip Langridge, Rosalind Plowright, Reri Grist, John Tomlinson and Lazlo Polgar. In Switzerland he studied with Denis Hall in Bern.

Damian is fluent in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

In 1996 Damian joined British Youth Opera for a season of Albert Herring and Die Zauberflote in London and Edinburgh. In 1997 he appeared on Simon Callow's production of Rossini's Il Turco in Italia for Broomhill Opera, in the Opera Works series with Jonathan Miller shown on BBC-TV and ABC in Australia, and in the world premiere performance and recording of the original version of Mahler's Das Klagende Lied with Kent Nagano and the Halle Orchestra. As a member of L'Academie Europeene de Musique, Damian took part in the Peter Brook production of Don Giovanni conducted by Claudio Abbado and Daniel Harding at the Festival of Aix-en-Provence, and subsequently on tour to Stockholm, Lyons, Milan, Brussels and Tokyo. In summer 2002 he returned to Aix for the reprise and filming of this landmark production. In April 1999 he appeared with Broomhill Opera in Kurt Weill's Der Silbersee at the newly re-opened Wilton's Music Hall in London.

During the 1999/2000 season Damian was a member of the Internationales Opernstudio at Opernhaus Zurich in Switzerland where he sang the title role in Lortzing's Der WildschûÓz and Luka in Walton's The Bear. In the Summer of 2000 he made his German debut singing the title role in Salieri's Falstaff for Konstanz Kammeroper. More recent performances in London have been for for Broomhill Opera in Fanferliesschen Schonefusschen by Viennese composer Kurt Schwertsik and with Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg singing in a new production of Carl Graun's Cesare e Cleopatra. In August 2003 Damian returned to Kammeroper Konstanz to play the role of Pasquariello in Gazzaniga's Don Giovanni.

Since the 2001 season Damian has been engaged at Opernhaus Zurich as repetiteur in the Internationales Opernstudio (IOS) and he works regularly as coach to several internationally renowned singers. He made his debut at Opernhaus Zurich conducting Rossini's La Pietra del Paragone and singing in Don Carlo.
